There are a lot of different variables involved with lowering ping times. One that is very important is your proximity to the server your connecting to. The farther away you are, the higher your ping is going to be. Besides that, you can upgrade your equipment. I'd especially recommend this if you're using a combo modem/router unit that is supplied by your ISP. Getting your own separate modem and router also means you don't pay to lease the equipment from your ISP. If that's not possible, check to see if your router has a firmware update. Also, try enabling QoS (Quality of Service) if that is an option.

Something else to consider is that 50 ms is still a good connection. going from 50 ms to 20 ms is a fraction of a second. Chances are good that you may not really notice a difference.
