I quit rivals other than objectives this year. Im now almost in d7 as all I do is play with objective teams against people’s first teams. EA have really ruined this game mode. Nothing more demoralizing than totally outplaying someone’s first team with non rare golds. And losing by a goal to the crap this game throws at you. A pride myself on being competitive. But it’s a never ending battle. If I grind to improve my skill rating which would be easily done, then I just lose it all when objectives come out. But I can’t convince myself to not be bothered by the fact I’m now in low d6.

Ok let me try to convince you. I went from div 4 to 8 doing Politano, now in 6 (close to 5) and the only difference between 5 and 6 is 6k coins for the 1st place. I don't want to be EA'd so I never take packs. I'm making 70-80k per day by no-brainer trading, why would I care about 6k difference? Even if you don't trade, difference between divisions is so miniscule. And being in lower divisons, even if you don't relegate on purpose, means just easier objectives, lot of guys doing it anyway, so even when you lose it's not that big of a deal. Leave your pride for weekend league, Rivals is just different cup of tea, should be much more relaxing. After Politano I realized points and divisions are utterly unimportant. I will never relegate on purpose, but it's just relaxing now.

Other way round for me. Wl is a chilled mode up until +15 form.

Rivals is about pride. Want to be as high up as possible. Also a much better representation of skill compared to wl.
