This is they key imo, if you connect to a 60hz server the gameplay 99% of the time is smooth.

Provided your opponent doesn't play on a ghetto connection, then lag compensation kicks in and lowers the tickrate to 20 resulting in dire gameplay.

Anyway, this all makes perfect sense. Also keep in mind that in a broad survey on social media last year, it was established that around 50% play FIFA on WIFI.

It's all about income and the player base engagement. people will still play with delay but they won't with massive speed up lag.
