So LW/RW players are not midfielders
Just seems weird,, could understand if they had been LF/RF playing them up front but wingers are still midfielders?

Nope.
Convert to LM/RM and it will work at least on a formation that has a LM/RM. I can't say if it will work if the position on the formation is a LW/RW
Historically, players starting positions don't determine their positions for objectives. From your description, if you convert vardy to a cam he would count towards the objectives if he scored. I don't believe this is correct.
I'm starting in a false 9 with perisic and gnabry on the wings and Brandt at cf. That way I have 6 mids to try and score and assist
I have literally done this (LW>LM conversion) and literally gotten progress on the objective. Haven't tried converting a striker though.
Maybe the criteria is different this year, which I would like. Can I ask who was the LW u converted to LM?
@Matt_Cornwall
OTW Pulisic, started in a 451 after converting to LM
Also, proof that he is packed as a LW not LM
And proof that it counted

Ive used a LW position changed to LM and it worked. I was starting in a 451 which has a LM position. Idk if it will work if u start in like a 433 with a LW position.

LW RW CF and ST are attackers. In formation the LW and RW are in line with the ST or CF.
For some objectives you must use players that are LW or RW when come out of pack. Otherwise it won't work. Those LW or RW can be converted to LM or RM and it will still work. If one makes CR7 a CDM, he is still considered as a Forward. It doesn't work the other way around
