Experiencing latency

Hi all,

Most of the times when I play FIFA 20 online (FUT), it feels like my players are relatively sluggish compared to offline play. It also looks like it gets better late at night (22h CET), which has led me to believe it's a latency issue. I've ran a traceroute to easo.ea.com that takes around 80-90ms to complete. If that it is the latency I'm experiencing in-game it would explain the aforementioned unresponsiveness.

I've tried to get some help from @EAHelp on Twitter, but those are mostly stock responses with improvements I already have in place (LAN cable, open ports, DMZ, PS4 reset). The last suggestion they had for me was to point me to my ISP, but I have already switched ISPs in the last month and they both are experiencing the same issue.

I won't post my traceroute yet because there might be some privacy concerns but happy to post f I know what information to remove (or I can send it via a private channel). Here's what I see though:

- For both ISPs, I don't see significant packet loss.

- I see similar results in cabled and wifi tests (the latter one being less stable in terms of avg and packet loss)

- Hops are fast (5ms) before hopping to *.zayo.com servers. Those are consistently 80+ms, even for those seemingly located in the Netherlands (where I reside as well).

- I've tried three different VPN servers, and the total duration is still around 80ms. I do see different routes: one of them has a hop to a nl.zayo.com server below 25ms, one of them doesn't see zayo at all, and the other one is similar to the route I get when connecting directly to my ISP.

For now, I have a couple of specific questions:

- Is the traceroute indicative of the latency I will experience in-game, or is there a possibility of a discrepancy?

- In case of the latter, is there any other (more reliable way) I can measure latency? (I want to make sure that my perception of latency is correct)

- Is a latency of 80+ms noticable in-game?

- Are all hops relevant? The final hop is located across the Atlantic in the US. Will I be connected to a US server in the game as well, even though I'm in the EU (The Netherlands)?

- Is there any kind of documentation on how easo.ea.com works (other than "run a traceroute to easo.ea.com")? As in: what is the purpose of the server, how is it related to in-game latency, etc?

Hope someone can help me 😃
