FIFA 20 Poor game play with friends

Hi, I’ve only been playing FIFA since January and have the normal game issues around lag etc when i play FUT weekend, Rivals, Friendlies, but as a whole this follows general server demand. However I’ve been trying to play my friend for 3 months and the gameplay is always bad for both of us irrespective of time or day the game pauses frequently and almost stutters and is unplayable. Doesn’t happen when I play friendlies with any other person. Does anyone know what this could be and a fix for it? System is Xbox.

You have bad gameplay when playing with your friends because you're using a peer to peer connection. All other online modes are played through the servers. So it's impossible to have a good connection with your friends especially if they live far away from you.

on Wi-fi, but don’t lag in multiple modes - very minimal. In friendly mode and just with my mate, it is always bad, never had a good game in 6 months. I think we’ve played about 70. The game perminantly stutters.

Since you're lagging in multiple modes, we should find out what is causing that. First, are you on a wired or wireless connection? Thanks!
