EA has reduced the number of servers for fifa 20.
TLDR: instead of adding/fixing servers, EA are actually eliminating servers.

Do you get a 5 bar ping to the Dutch, German servers? They always try to put me on the Dutch server, but I only get a 4 bar ping, do keep backing out until I get the 5 bar ping, that's the Irish server and my netduma tells me the location.
Havent checked the actual server in fifa 20 but yeah I aways get 5 bars, sometimes if I go wireless it flicks between 4 and 5.
Last time I did check it in fifa 19 it was Amsterdam 5 bars.
People who live in the Netherlands, Germany, Brazil or England should never offer their experience on these threads, because it is obviously conditioned by the fact that they have servers right next to them.
It's funny though that one guy here who I often spoke to who was living in Austria, right next to Germany, was being redirected to 4600km away servers in who knows what country so far away, it's insanity.
Servers are the worst and most outdated possible netcode on Earth, 90s netcode technology has no place in a competitive 1v1 sports game in 2020.
Servers and netcode are completly different things. every online game needs servers unless you love cheats.
The quality, placement and peering of the servers is one issue... EAs arn't very good the use the same server clusters for all thier games, probably don't maintain them well or spend money on upgrading them, and overload them to within an inch of thier lives no doubt.
The netcode is pretty much established to suck but thats not going to get fixed ever, billions in income but a borrowed engine does that.

Maybe they are not as busy. I’ve never had delay like some are and could be due to a lower population on the servers.
Not delay but unresponsivness is the problem for me

Apparently removed the irish one too I dont think it ever worked but it was there before.
No they didn't, that's the server I always play on, get the best gameplay with a low ping.

I doubt the numbers are as big in America, but they should've at least another two server locations for Europe. Countries like Lithuania would be good for people living in countries like Sweden, Denmark etc, low corporate tax. Another good location would be Hungary for Romania, Turkey etc.

Wouldn’t lower traffic translate to less delay? As I said, I’m not saavy in regards to this type of thing.

This router shows him what servers he is connecting to. In fifa 19 they used two servers in California. A server in Kansas City and two servers on the east coast. One in North Carolina and one somewhere else. I’ve forgotten now. In fifa 20 the only servers he has been able to connect to are North Carolina and Brazil (he lives in Toronto, I believe). This is absolutely absurd and explains why this weekend league was so much worst than any in fifa 19. They already have a delayed mess of a game. So they actually eliminate 5 of the 6 US servers. I have to assume if they have done this in the US, they have done it elsewhere. This is a very logical explanation as to why someone like me, that had good gameplay in fifa 19 mostly, is playing a delayed mess this year.

I actually was. That says more about me than EA the more I think about it.

I live in Oklahoma. It would make sense that I have delay. If I was connecting through KC that wouldn’t be bad at all. But connecting through one server in North Carolina would be a major issue. I also play 8/10 games against Mexicans. But I assume a lot of them are from Texas. Just looking for a reason that I didn’t have more than occasional connection issues in 19 and have massive delay in 20.

I have two things to say about this:
1. Servers usually hold a quantity of 20 to 100 people on them, depending on the resources required to run the game. There are dozens if not hundreds of servers in each designated country so there aren't 5 or 2 as you say, there are many more. The ones you must be referring to must be the matchmaking servers which are different from the servers the match is played on. Or maybe you are actually referring to the gameplay servers and it's just that there are only two locations now or three in which EA has servers hired but in any case there are always dozens of servers and not just 2 or 5.
2. Your case clearly demonstrates that servers are causing a huge latency disadvantage to a LOT of users. They do not reduce latency or delay, or act as a common meeting point which could reduce latency, the only thing they achieve is doubling input delay and increasing latency by 1 or 2 hundreds.
We need, P2P, as an option EA. This guy could be playing with US folks at 15ms and instead is being redirected to 300ms Brazil servers where he's cursing his life.

One west coast, one east coast server.
Atleast as far as I know that's all na had for gameplay servers and that's what you have this year (as proven by the qualifier server set up).
Dunno where he got the other servers from, but netduma routers got proven wrong in the past too.

There should be a server in Oklahoma though it is basically the middle of the US

Anecdotally speaking, they only used one data centre in South America last year as well (Sao Paolo, Brazil) and that is the same this year. I see no difference in lag for me (crap last year, crap this time around). Not saying a reduction in supporting DCs isn't to blame but I don't think it's the only reason.

You use the Netduma R1? Any good? I wanted the Netgear nighthawk xr500 but it doesn't have a modem, and apparently bt don't let you use the smart hub as one.

Inception doesn’t know his ****. Ignore him.
The issue isn’t where the servers are. The issues is what type of servers they are using. They are using listening servers which aren’t proper dedicated servers. These are cheap servers that COD used for years before switching.
