They can do as they please, anyway you may be able to win a money judgement and get your purchase fee back but would probably cost you more in legal fees.

No such a thing is a contract being water tight. Law is about the negotiations and understanding of both parties. There are terms read into a contract by law which are not outlined in the terms and conditions that EA or any other company provide. What you would have to show is the you were mislead or there is something unconscionable in the arrangement. If you can see something like that you can refer it to your government authorities. In Australia where I am that is the work of organisations like the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. They can take action on behalf of consumers for misleading and unconscionable conduct and there are big fines for such cases.
